How Do I Change Name Of Shopify Template Page?

Whether it's from the store dashboard on your desktop or the Shopify app, here's a quick guide on how to change the name of your Shopify store.

When it comes to ecommerce website solutions, few can beat Shopify. Thanks to an array of features and plugins, dropshipping options, as well as a comprehensive support system with tutorials and Shopify experts, this platform has all you need to help you create the perfect online store.

In this short article, we're covering a very basic feature of running your store: how to change your Shopify store name.

Creating a Shopify account

Unlike some other popular website builders such as WordPress, or Wix, Shopify doesn't have a free plan. There are 4 pricing options, however, you can choose a 14-day free trial for each, which can also be an opportunity for you to test the waters, and settle on all the store details before you purchase a custom domain name.

You can open a new Shopify store very easily, by creating a new account and logging in with your email address. No credit card payment is required!

You'll then need to choose your new store name which will create a store domain for you with the address yourstorename.myshopify.com. Remember that this is not your actual store name, but rather a URL for your Shopify admin page.

You'll need to verify your email address, and then you'll be able log in with the credentials.

Shopify store name vs new domain name

Once you create a new Shopify account and type in your store name, you'll get the myshopify.com sub-domain, which you can use to access the admin panel.

You can use this subdomain name as the URL that your customers will see, however, remember that it's much better to purchase a custom domain (yourname.com for example). You can purchase a Shopify domain and set it as your primary domain; or you can even connect an existing domain you purchased elsewhere GoDaddy or Namecheap, for example.

You can even have different subdomains for one primary domain (e.g. domains for different countries).

This will make your store seem much more professional and trustworthy and will also help with SEO.

Find the Settings menu on your admin page

If you want to edit any store details, such as email addresses, taxes, locations, or payment options, you can do so in the Settings menu. You'll find it in the bottom left corner of your Shopify admin panel.

In the Settings menu choose the "General" tab, and there you'll be able to see your current store name. Type in the new name in the name field. You can also tweak your legal store name and contact information (address, phone number and email).

Tap the save button and you're done!

How to connect a third party domain

If you want to connect a domain purchased over a third-party provider, then you'll need to connect it through the DNS (Domain Name System) settings.

To do this, you need to follow these steps:

  • Log into your third party provider account
  • Find the DNS settings
  • Set the A report to point to Shopify's IP address 23.227.38.65
  • Change the www.CNAME record to point to shops.myshopify.com

Some providers like GoDaddy automatically set up your domains for you in different ways. But make sure to contact your provider and inquire about changes in DNS settings.

Changing your store name using Shopify app

A great way to have your shop on the go is to download the Shopify App to your mobile phone. It's available for IOS and Android operating systems.

Here's how to change your store name using the mobile app.

  • Login with your email address.
  • Tap the store icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Go to settings.
  • Go to "General".
  • Change the store name in the name field and hit save.
